Charlie Jade news

Those of you who’ve followed on over from Pop Critics likely already know of my great affection for Charlie Jade and disgust with The SciFi Channel for their mistreatment of this fine noir science fiction. Minimally promoted, and yanked unceremoniously from its Friday timeslot to burnoff theater – Tuesday mornings at 2am – the network had no faith in its audience. Then again, this is the network that shows Ghost Hunters and wrestling instead of science fiction, so no one should be surprised.

But SciFi paid good money for the rights and they intend to get something in return, so on Tuesday March 10, SciFi is running an eight-episode mini-marathon.

You can also head over to Charlie Jade Verse to keep up with all the latest news, listen to episode commentaries from the creators, read reviews, and listen to our Podcast on the show. So if you’ve ever wondered what your humble host sounds like, go listen to me wax poetic about one of my favorite shows.

So this is in addition to the Middleman marathon?

  2. R.A. Porter Says:

What Middleman marathon? All I know about is the Shout! Factory! dvd coming out and the new comic book to wrap up the season. When's the marathon?

  3. Mike Olbinski Says:

Thought your Tweet yesterday about a SciFi Marathon was The Middleman. I guess I got mixed up :(

Very cool news. I still have the final episode “Ouroboros” saved on my DVR and even after three viewings have yet to figure it out. I finally decided to download the episode commentary podcast and burned it to an audio CD so I can watch it with Robert Wertheimer's insights and perspective, but haven’t gotten around to it.

PS – Any word on whether they will release a DVD set for CJ?

  6. R.A. Porter Says:

It looks very unlikely that they'll release a Region 1 DVD. You *can* get the R2 from Amazon.uk for not too much money, however.

    R.A.,

Any chance you would be interested in putting together a top and bottom list of episodes for Charlie Jade? Your personal favorites, key episodes or moments, occasional disappointments, etc. In your last recap you wrote:

"…of the 20 hour-long episodes, about five are awfully weak, five are adequate and meandering, five are solid, and five are superb."

I think quite a few faithful and casual followers of the show would be interested in your opinion of which five fall into each category. Or a more generalized top and bottom 10 type of list based on whatever criteria you deem appropriate.

Just a thought as many of us watch Charlie Jade once again… or for the first time.

    Much thanks.

That's a good idea. I'll try to get to that this weekend, putting together my thoughts and rating the episodes in terms of quality and how important they are to understanding what's going on with CJ. I think it's about time I also import my CJ pieces from Pop Critics so they're accessible here.

  9. Doug Says:

It would be great if you could import everything you've got on CJ from Pop Critics onto this site.

BTW, I just noticed that Jeffrey Pierce will be in the last two episodes of FOX's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" playing a T-888 terminator. That's reason enough to watch right there. Well, that and it could also be the series finale. I doubt FOX will give this under appreciated show a third season given the viewership levels.

    R.A.,

Anything new on creating an episode rating guide for CJ?

I'd love to get your take and rating/evaluation on each episode. Or even a more generalized top and bottom list. Thanks.

Ugh. I'm a failure. It's been on my calendar for a couple weeks now, but I keep pushing it off. I *hope* to get started on it this week. I figure it's probably two separate posts – one listing my top and bottom episodes and one giving overall evaluations of each – and shouldn't be that hard for me to put together. As soon as I tackle it.

Keep looking. I promise it'll show up eventually.

Amazon.com now has a sign-up page for Charlie Jade. Please go there and sign-up and explain why you want this DVD. Pass this message to all Charlie Jade fans.
