There were a lot of funny throwaways in this ep. My favorite was the Lee/Kara stuff with the grenade — might be the first time Lee ever made me laugh. Wouldn't it be a miracle if the ending of this series is the one thing that makes me finally warm to his character?

And Bear McCreary's blog is a must read after any episode — what a smart, charming guy — as are Mo Ryan's interviews and RDM's podcasts. Taken together they illuminate so much, and each from different perspectives.

It's a real testament to this show that I'm finding myself sad to say goodbye even to characters I was never wild about to begin with, and that their deaths reveal so much about their lives. I'm in awe at the way this is all unraveling.

I think this is the best summary of how Gaeta is misguided that I've read so far, anywhere. GREAT recap. I had never seen this site before, I think you put a link on Alan Sepinwall's blog? I think that's how I found my way over here. This site is now bookmarked and I'll be back, thanks for the excellent commentary.

Did you have a chance to read Bear McCreary's post for this episode? Beyond the amazing, in-depth discussion of the score, he has a LOT of quotes from the creators. For such a moving episode, I didn't expect to get a laugh this big, though... “I had really mixed feelings,” Alessandro Juliani told me, of his character’s death prior to the finale. “At the time, I thought it was a pretty wicked way to go out. But I did miss being a part of the grand finale in all of its emotional payoff. It also pretty much ended the possibility of the ‘Gaeta and Hoshi Save the World with Math’ spin-off that I was working on…”

Nah, he couldn't resurrect now anyway, since the hub is gone, but I also think it would cheapen the whole storyline if he reappeared. I also think it cheapens Baltar's experience, which felt like the whole point of the scene to me — it redeemed him in some way.

Oh Felix, you tragic fool.

That weird, sad scene with Baltar struck me as really odd last night. I've watched it twice, but need to watch it again now that some time has passed. I know Angeli said in his interview with Mo Ryan that RDM set that scene in Gaeta's quarters to put a little uncertainty in our minds that maybe Gaeta was going to survive, but the way it played for me…

I thought Felix was having that conversation with a Head-Baltar while sitting before the firing squad.

Which added extra layers to his exchange with Baltar to me:;
"I just hope, I hope that people realize, eventually, who I am."
"I know who you are, Felix. I know who you are."

I know he's not a Cylon. I guess. Unless he is and there are more than 12.

The Chief! See, I've loved him from the very first episode. His selfless heroism of the physically gruelling crawling and cutting his hands to stop the FTL was breathtaking. All of the rest was horrifying. This was one I was glad I watched alone although I wish I had company. What I love and hate about BSG is the simple fact that it is so real and I can't help but fear that it could really happen to us.
