"As much as I love Holly Hunter, I never did get into Saving Grace."

Ditto. I could never get past two main issues/problems I had with the show:

1. Off duty, Grace behaved recklessly and out of control which led (in the pilot episode) to her hitting a pedestrian with her car and then asking God for help. Angel Earl appears and sets things right, yet Grace's crazy behavior still bordered on extreme in the episodes (and seasons) that followed. Excessive drinking, smoking, doing crazy shit, pulling pranks, etc.

2. I've always wondered how residents of Oklahoma City (especially those involved in law enforcement) viewed the show. How realistic is it that in almost every episode the core group of detectives would go to the local bar and (seemingly) drink themselves into oblivion? They drove home from the bar, right? Probably a little tipsy, yes? That's not setting a very good example of the local police force and probably not how real detectives in OK City actually behave.

I occasionally checked back in with Saving Grace (usually the season premiere and an ep or two beyond) to see if those two issues had been reeled in a little, but the answer was always 'nope, not really'.
